Stephen A. Kahn
Partner – Atlanta
Steve Kahn is an experienced attorney who specializes in both insurance coverage and liability defense. Steve has done work with Fields Howell’s clients on claims pertaining to large property loss, products liability, and personal injury, among others. He has worked closely with adjusters and retained experts to protect Fields Howell’s clients’ rights and interests. Steve has significant experience negotiating pre-suit resolution in property claims where appropriate, or litigating matters when necessary. Steve uses his years of experience to evaluate the best course of action for each claim, knowing that no two are exactly alike.
In 2018, Steve spent six months seconded to a Lloyd’s Market insurer where he gained valuable insights into the entire claims process, with a focus on property losses throughout the United States. While there, on a daily basis he handled claims, worked with independent adjusters, retained experts, and resolved claims. He returned to Fields Howell’s Atlanta headquarters at the start of 2019 as one of the firm’s most experienced associates.
Steve joined Fields Howell in 2015 as an associate and was promoted to partner in 2020. Prior to joining Fields Howell, Steve was a Senior Associate at Ferguson, Frost, Moore & Young, LLP, in Birmingham, Alabama. There, he had a primary focus on complex litigation and coverage defense. Steve served as a staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit from 2011-2013.
Steve has served as a law clerk for Owens and Millsaps, LLP; a judicial intern for the Honorable Michael Warren of the Oakland County Circuit Court; and as a legal intern in the Domestic Cable Distribution Office at Warner Brothers in Burbank, California. While in school, he served as a Career Services Office Representative and President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, while also earning the Lanier, Ford, Shaver & Payne Award in Intellectual Property.
Steve earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, magna cum laude, in 2010. While there, Steve served as a senior editor on the Law Review and as a member of the JAG Moot Court Team.
