Michael F. Burgess
Associate – Atlanta
Michael Burgess specializes in providing insurance coverage advice to both domestic and international insurers regarding commercial property and commercial general liability claims. He serves as defense counsel in direct litigation involving personal injury, construction defects, and professional liability claims.
Prior to attending law school, Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in history and political science with a focus on pre-law studies from Mississippi State University. Michael also served as a court services intern at Roswell Municipal Court. While in school, Michael worked as a legal intern with the Environmental Finance Center at the UNC School of Government and as a legal extern with the Southeast Region of the Federal Trade Commission. Michael gained significant experience in 2017 working as a summer associate with Fields Howell. He assisted with various matters in different stages of litigation, conducted research for the firm, and drafted motions for clients. Additionally, he worked on a major project involving a discovery dispute.
Michael graduated from Emory University School of Law with Honors. He graduated in the top third of his class and received the Custer Tuggle Award of Excellence in Family Law Curriculum. While at Emory, Michael served as Managing Editor of the Emory Corporate Governance and Accountability Review and as Treasurer of the National Security and Military Law Society.
Following his graduation in 2018, Michael accepted Fields Howell’s offer to return to the firm’s Atlanta office as an associate attorney.
