Michael F. Burgess

Michael Burgess is an insurance coverage and litigation attorney in Atlanta. He specializes in providing insurance coverage advice to both domestic and international insurers regarding commercial general liability, commercial property, and bad faith claims. Additionally, he serves as defense counsel in direct litigation involving personal injury and premises liability claims in Georgia and Tennessee. Michael joined Fields Howell as an associate in 2018 after serving as a summer associate for the firm in 2017.
Michael earned his Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law with Honors in 2018 after graduating summa cum laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. At Emory, in addition to completing his coursework in the top third of his class, Michael served as Managing Editor of the Emory Corporate Governance and Accountability Law Review and as Treasurer of the National Security and Military Law Society.
Prior to joining Fields Howell, Michael served as a legal extern with the Southeast Region of the Federal Trade Commission, as a legal intern with the Environmental Finance Center at the University of North Carolina, and as a court services intern at Municipal Court of Roswell, Georgia. Outside of the office, Michael is an avid soccer fan and enjoys playing disc golf and hiking.
