Class Actions & Complex Litigation
Fields Howell has increasingly become known for its successful litigation of the most complex issues. Representative cases involve allegations of anti-trust, RICO, and class allegations. We have also worked on complex issues which require coordination across the market.
In recent years, Fields Howell won summary judgment for the Lloyd’s Market in an Arkansas state court case seeking more than $350 million in damages. We also obtained dismissal of a Florida federal court case demanding more than $1 billion in damages from three Lloyd’s syndicates and settled a class action, where liability was indisputable, with the Market paying less than 15 cents on the dollar.
From these cases, Fields Howell developed strong relationships with both Lloyd’s corporate and insurance regulators across the United States. Our relationships allow us to rally support where necessary from the broader London Insurance Market and keep regulators satisfied without compromising the defense of the case.
