A Note on COVID-19

Mar 20, 2020

To our valued business partners and friends:

We hope this message finds you, your family, and your loved ones safe and healthy. We write to advise that Fields Howell continues to operate at full capacity without any interruption in service. Due to preparedness efforts put in place years ago, you will not notice any difference in the work product you have come to expect from Fields Howell. For our attorneys and staff, Fields Howell’s remote platform allows each of us to work in the same manner, whether in the office, at home, or anywhere else that Internet access is provided.

Fields Howell is actively monitoring the impact of COVID-19 and is using best practices to mitigate attendant risks. We remain committed to ensuring our clients’ interests are protected and our services continue without interruption. The safety and well-being of our employees, clients, and others is a top priority. To that end, we have taken measures consistent with guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and local governments, including:

  • Business Continuity Plan: Since 2015, Fields Howell operates on a secure cloud-based network based in Atlanta, with daily back-ups in secure data centers located in the U.S. All attorneys, paralegals, and essential staff have remote access to our system and the ability to connect wherever internet access is available. This system has been tried and tested without fail, including during the 2017 aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Regardless of where our team is physically located, we have full access to all of our systems.
  • Use of Technology: Consistent with our Business Continuity Plan, we are coordinating with clients, courthouses, and other attorneys to leverage our technology to conduct meetings, depositions, and hearings remotely and eliminate non-essential travel. This allows us to continue representing our clients without interruption, while minimizing the risk of spreading the virus.
  • Safety Measures: We are encouraging our team members to use best hygiene practices at work and home. In addition to eliminating non-essential travel, we have asked all employees to avoid in-person gatherings and have instituted self-reporting and quarantine measures.

Finally, we understand that your business may encounter novel and challenging issues in the coming days. Please reach out to us if we can assist you in navigating these issues. We would welcome the opportunity to provide counsel regarding COVID-19-related inquiries, and we invite you to contact your primary Fields Howell contacts to discuss the services we stand ready to provide.

Sincerely,

Paul L. Fields, Jr.
