Samuel Y. Chen

Samuel Y. Chen is an insurance coverage lawyer in Chicago. He works with Fields Howell’s Professional Liability Team to provide coverage advice and serve as monitoring counsel to various domestic and international insurers. Sam monitors circumstances of insured lawyers, accountants, and other professionals, and helps evaluate potential exposure to insurer clients.
Prior to joining Fields Howell, Sam worked at a mid-sized law firm where he provided pre-litigation advice to insurance companies on a variety of complex matters, including multiple product liability claims with potential exposures in excess of $1 billion. When necessary, he litigated such matters. Sam’s work focused on claims arising from various policies, including commercial general liability, cyber, environmental, E&O, and Bermuda-form policies.
Sam is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law. While there, he represented the school in national competitions as a member of the trial team. He also spent time as a law clerk at an insurance coverage and defense firm in Chicago and as a legal intern at Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. Before attending law school, Sam earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California – San Diego and worked as a client liaison and Mandarin translator for an international surrogacy agency.
