Paul E. Tennison

Paul E. Tennison is an insurance coverage and defense attorney in Nashville, Tennessee. He advises domestic and international insurers on coverage matters arising from property and commercial liability claims, and monitors claims and litigation arising from gig economy matters.
Prior to joining Fields Howell, Paul worked as an Associate in the Nashville office of a national law firm where he focused on a variety of insurance defense matters, including medical malpractice and legal malpractice matters, as well as general civil litigation. In addition to representing insurers and their insureds in litigation, Paul also conducted insurance coverage analysis, providing insurers with coverage advice in complex claims.
He first began his legal career with a Tennessee-based law firm where he worked on a broad range of civil litigation matters. There, he gained experience in the areas of commercial and breach of contract law, family law, employment law, military law, and chaired several bench trials and a jury trial.
Before attending law school, Paul served on active duty in the United States Army, working in various roles while stationed in Korea and Germany. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law. Paul is passionate about supporting his Tennessee community and fellow veterans and currently serves his community as a Board member for the Davidson County Veterans and Mental Health Court Assistance Foundation and Operation Headshot.

Achieved Partial Summary Judgment on Punitive Damages in a complex agricultural spray drift case in Warren County, Tennessee. Successfully defended this ruling through a Brief in Opposition to Motion for Interlocutory Appeal that was successful with the Tennessee Court of Appeals in 2024.
Paul has settled more than 80% of 20+ cases in mediation over his career, showcasing his ability to manage client expectations, posture cases for effective settlement, and work with mediators to come to a resolution when such is of benefit to his client.
